PERFORMER TITLES

This is for dogs and owners who would like to learn the most impressive looking and crowd-pleasing tricks. This is perfect if you would like to show off your dog to your friends, family and others.

NOVIE PERFORMER

1.Paw on On cue dog places one paw on an object which is not handler’s hand. Repeat with 3 different objects.
2 Take a bow Dog takes a bow or curtsey by lowering their front feet to the ground while their back legs remain upright. Hold the position for 3 seconds. 
3 Lie down On cue dog lies down flat on its front like in the ‘down’ position but with their head resting on the floor. The dog maintains this position for 3 seconds. 
4 Ring the bell Dog rings a bell using either its mouth/nose or paw. The bell can be hanging or button. 
5 Spin (both ways) Dog spins around itself in a full circle (in both directions). 
6 Wave Dog lifts its paw up and either moves it from side to side or up and down several times in succession. 
7 In front On cue the dog moves and stands in front of the handler, facing the handler, and stays there for at least 3 seconds. 
8 Balance on nose Balance an object or a treat on the nose or muzzle for 5 seconds. After that, the object can either be picked up by the handler or the dog can flip it up and catch it. 
9 Play dead On a cue dog lies down flat on its side and stays there at least for 3 seconds. 
10 Kiss Dog gives the handler a kiss on cue by licking or touching the handler’s cheek with their nose 11 Sing Dog sings (howls) on cue. 
12 Center position On cue the dog positions itself bettween handler’s legs with all 4 feet on the floor, facing the same way as the handler. 
13 Crawl Dog crawls on belly for 5 strides. 
14 Touch the target Dog demonstrates that on cue it is able to consistently touch an object other than a hand with its nose. This needs to be done as a flowing sequence of at least 4 nose to target touches in different positions. The target can be a target stick or any other nonfood object. 
15 Through legs Dog starts facing the handler and on cue goes forward all the way through the handler’s legs. 
16 Which hand Handler holds a treat or a small object in one of their closed hands and the dog indicate either by nosing, a focused look or by pawing which hand the treat is hidden in. Repeat twice. 
17 Find all the treats Handler hides 10 small treats around a room or a defined small outdoor space while the dog is not watching. Invite the dog in and on a cue the dog actively searches for and finds at least 9 of the 10 hidden treats without help from the handler. Dog must not pause and do something else while doing the exercise. Treats need to be in places on or below the dog’s nose level. The dog can use any indication method to show the location of the treats, or just picks them up when it find them. 
18 Pots search for treats Handler hides a treat underneath one of 5 objects and the dog indicates where it is. The objects could be flower pots with drainage holes on the top, cardboard boxes or containers with loosely covered lids, etc. Dog must not turn the pots over or open the containers to search for the hidden treat. It needs to examine all of the containers and indicate the one with the treat.
19 Jump up On cue dog jumps up on a spot 3 times. 
20 Jump over leg Dog jumps over handler’s legs while handler is sitting or standing. Once in each direction. 
21 Hand signals novice Dog performs 3 different skills on silent hand signals from the handler. The skills can be from any category, but ideally from this category where possible. 
22 Head tilt Dog tilts head on cue and holds it in that position for 2 seconds. 
23 Circle the handler Dog performs a full circle around the handler in both directions. 
24 Whisper into my ear Dog comes to the handler and holds its nose close to the handler’s ear like it’s sharing some secret. 
25 Hands up! On cue dog lifts both of its front paws up and holds them there for at least 2 seconds. 
26 Ground On command dog looks down onto o the floor or the ground. 
27 Touch your nose Dog lifts paw and touches its nose. A quick touch or a swipe is OK. 
28 Distance work novice Dog performs 3 tricks at a distance of approximately 5m away from the handler. Voice or visual commands or both are allowed. Any tricks are permitted. 
29 Hug-hold Dog puts one or two feet around a vertical object (stick, leg, umbrella etc) like if holding in a hug position and holds the position for 3 seconds. The object needs to be supported by the handler. 30 Wear sunglasses or hat Dog is able to wear in relaxed way without trying to take off sunglasses or a hat for 5 seconds.

ADVANCED PERFORMER

1 Say prayers With 2 front feet up on a raised firm support dog lowers head between its raised front feet and keeps this position for at least 2 seconds 
2 Around Handler sends dog around a stationary object from at least 3 meters away and dog performs a full circle around the object. Demonstrate in both directions 
3 Figure of 8 weave Dog performs a figure of 8 weave around a stationary handler’s legs or around handler and a stationary object. Demonstrate a sequence of two sequential weaves 
4 Pivot turn Dog in a heel position performs a pivot by doing a full circle turn together with the handler (handler is on the outside). Demonstrate with dog on the right and on the left of the handler 
5 Shy Dog covers its eyes with one or two paws
6 Cross paws while walking Dog walks crossing it’s front paws for 4 strides or copies the handler as he/she crosses the legs while walking 
7 Tic tack Dog jumps onto a vertical or slightly angled stable surface and then perform a tight turn landing straight back down. Each foot must touch the object, ideally only once and the time of the paw contact should be minimal. Needs to be performed from both sides 
8 Penguine Dog positions itself between handler’s feet, puts front paws one on each handler’s feet and walks with handler that way forward and backwards for at least 5 steps in each way 
9 Tango Dog is facing the handler and on cue places front paws one on each of the handler’s feet. Together they move forward and backwards for at least 5 steps without dog removing it’s paws off the handler’s feet 
10 Circle backwards Dog circles a handler or a stationary object by going backwards and performs a full circle remaining as close to the object as possible. Demonstrate in both directions 
11 Elephant trick Dog puts both front paws on a raised stationary object and performs a full circle around it in both directors, keeping the front paws on the object and moving around on back legs 
12 Reverse to position between handler’s legs Dog reverses from at least 4 dog’s body lengths away straight backwards to the position between handler’s legs 
13 Back up onto an object Dog backs up for at least 3 dog body lengths to a slightly raised object (dog’s bed, mat, step etc) and puts its back feet on it and stays in that position for 3 seconds. 
14 Forward leg weaves Handler is walking forward and the dog performs 5 weaves around handler’s legs 
15 Dog circles handler from between the legs Starting from between handler’s legs position dog circles handler to the right and to the left, finishing each circle in the starting position 
16 Walk sideways facing each other Dog walks sideways for 5 steps facing the handler, together with the handler 
17 Walk sideways in heel position Dog walks sideways for 5 steps in the heel position in both directions -left and right. Dog needs to maintain the heel position and move freely y together with the handler 
18 Walk with a limp On cue dog walks with a limp on 3 paws, holding one of the paws up. Repeat for 4 dog steps.
19 Jump through arms Handler makes a hoop with his/her arms and dog jumps through the arm hoop once in each direction 
20 Scoot backwards Dog in a bow position scoots backwards for 5 steps, repeat twice 
21 Jump through leg hoop Handler makes a leg hoop by bending one leg in the knee and touching with the foot another leg. Dog jumps through the leg hoop made by the handler in both directions. If necessary the handler can use a stationary solid object to lean on for support. 
22 Search for hidden treat on a person Assistant hides a treat somewhere superficially on them and dog performs a careful search for the treat on the assistant. On finding the location of the treat the dog indicates the location using appropriate method, perhaps by a focused looking at the spot. Dog is not allowed to try to extract the treat, but needs to indicate it’s location. 
23 Hand signals advanced Dog performs 6 different behavours/skills on hand signals from the handler. The behaviors can be from any category. 
24 Shake Dog shakes on command, like it does when it is wet and trying to dry off 
25 Roll the barrel Dog places front paws on a barrel or another rollable object and rolls it forward for 5 steps
26 Cross paws while lying Dog crosses paws on command  or by copying the handler while lying down 27 Say no On command the dog moves it’s head several times from side to side 
28 Say yes On command the dog moved head up and down as if saying nodding 
29 Distance work advanced Dog performs 6 tricks at a distance of approximately 5m away from the handler. Voice or hand commands or both are allowed. Any tricks are permitted 
30 Press-ups On cue dog alternates between lowering it’s front legs to the floor like when taking a bow and then straightening them up like when standing straight. Repeat the sequence 3 times 
31 Loop the loop On command dog continuously spins around until the handler gives the stop command (for at least 5 circles). Demonstrate in both directions 
32 Donut Dog circles around the handler in one direction while handler is circling on the spot in the opposite direction. Demonstrate in both directions. Painting dog Dog dips a brush into pain and while holding the brush in the mouth moves it across the paper in front of it. Repeat several times.

EXPERT PERFORMER

1 Carry at heel position Dog carries an object while remaining at handler’s heel position. Together they need to walk for 8 steps, make 180 degrees turn and walk back 8 steps. Dog must remain at the heel position and carry the object with care. Object is then released to handler’s hand. 
2 Military marching Dog lifts front paws high one by one in synchrony with the handler’s lifting legs in a marching fashion. Dog can stand in any position. Dog needs to maintain the synchrony and the coordination of the paw lifting as the handler’s leg rises. This can be done with forward movement or on the spot 6 times. 
3 Counting dog Dog barks the required number of barks and stops on a subtle signal from handler. Repeat twice. 
4 Find the object with handler scent Handler briefly holds an object that is then placed at an equal distance of one foot apart among 5 other objects. Dog must not see which object the handler touched. Dog needs to find and clearly indicate the object with handler’s scent on it. 
5 Circle backwards while moving Dog performs a full circle moving backwards around a moving object, a moving handler or a sequentially the moving handler and an object. Demonstrate in both directions. 
6 Marching on the spot Dog lifts its legs up sequentially like walking while marching on the spot — perform 6 lifts counting front paws. 
7 Reverse leg weaves Dog reverses and performs 5 weaves moving backwards through the e legs of walking handler. The handler could be moving backwards or forwards. 
8 Merry go round Dog goes around the outside leg of a handler who circles by keeping the inside leg on the same spot, while making steps around a circle with the outside leg. Dog circles the handler’s outside leg after each handler’s step around the circle. Together dog and handler perform a full circle in both directions. 9 Roll while handler steps over On cue dog rolls over while handler steps over it. Repeat twice, once in each direction, or as a sequence in one direction. 
10 Shy while sitting pretty Dog covers its eyes with one or two front paws while sitting pretty and holds this position for 2 seconds. 
11 Hand signals expert Dog performs 10 different behaviours/skills on hand signal from the handler. The behaviours can be from any category. 
12 Upright spin Dog spins or hops around itself in a full circle in both directions while standing on its hind legs without support. 
13 Jump into handler arms Dog jumps into the handler’s arms. 
14 Tic tack off the handler Dog jumps up, performs tight turn, rebounds off the handler and lands straight down. Each foot should touch once. 
15 Sing Dog howls alongside a musical instrument, handler’s song or a piece of music. It does not have to follow the rhythms or the tune. 
16 Distance work expert Dog performs 10 tricks at a distance of approximately 5m away from the handler. Voice or hand commands or both are allowed. Any tricks are permitted. 
17 Build a tower Dog builds a tower of at least 3 blocks or other objects requiring precision of placement and some balance. 
18 Play the drum Dog holds a drumming stick in its mouth carefully and, in a rhythm indicated by the handler, taps the drumming stick onto the drum. Alternatively, the dog can use its paw on the drum pedal. It has to be in a rhythm set by the handler. 
19 Do as I do Dog copies handler actions without the handler giving a specific cue for those actions. Demonstrate with 3 different tricks. Handler can use the command to indicate that the dog needs to repeat the action, but it has to be the same for all of the tricks.
