Equipment and All Dogs are Not the Same.

There is a lot of talk these days about what equipment to use, and what equipment to not use.  People seem to have very strong opinions on this matter.

All dogs are not the same, and with that said, training methods and equipment used will not be the same. What is good for my dog, may not work with your dog, and vise versa.

The choice and method you choose is your own business, while the cry is great for positive training methods, there are times when you have to dig a bit deeper.  I do push for positive training methods, rewards and the like.  A dog works better when they aren't fearful, or scared.

My only advice on this is,  don't believe all the google studies you looked up, don't believe prong collars are wrong, or right.  Use your best judgement, again your dog, your choice.

The argument will not be pushed here.  Your dog, your choice.

If you choose to use prong collars, shock collars, or you choose to use gentler methods, again that is your choice.  The argument against various equipment did not start here, and nor shall it end here.

The only thing I ask, if you do choose to use a piece of equipment, train yourself on that piece before your use it on your dog.  Many a good dog have been ruined by improper use of a piece of equipment, and many a good dog have moved forward by proper use of same said  piece of equipment.

I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH,  ALL DOGS ARE DIFFERENT.

Every dog is different, some learn quickly, some don't.  Some things can be done easily with  some dogs, while others struggle.  Some will excel in sporting arenas, some won't.  '

While certain breeds are bred for a certain type of work, not all end up being good at it.  You may have a herding breed, that will kill livestock.  You might have a poodle who loves to herd ducks.  You may have a hunting breed, that has no interest in the hunt, and again you may have a mutt who loves to retrieve ducks.

The point I am trying to make is, just because you have a certain breed, bred for a certain thing, does not mean that dog will excel at that.  You may have a mutt, whose breed you have no clue of, who will be the best herder, best hunter, best agility, best something.

Not all dogs learn at the same pace.  Somethings one dog can do and do well, another will struggle with or never be able to do.  Don't expect a perfect dog, there is no such thing, just as there is no such thing as a perfect human.  Don't get frustrated because your dog just isn't picking up what your teaching, try a different approach to teaching the trick.  You can also take a break from teaching one certain thing, move to something else for awhile.  Take a few days off from a certain trick and return to it. You might find yourself surprised, that before the dog didn't get it, and now after a few repeats the dog seems like a pro.

Dogs are like humans in this, as they are all individuals.  So think about it like this,  you wouldn't expect yourself to have all the same interests as your family or neighbors have, so why expect a dog to have the same interests, or mannerisms of a certain breed.  The key word here is INDIVIDUALITY.
